Dust Emissivity in the Far - Infrared

چکیده
We have derived the dust emissivity in the FarInfrared (FIR) using data available in the literature. We use two wavelength dependences derived from spectra of Galactic FIR emission (Reach et al. 1995). A value for the emissivity, normalised to the extinction efficiency in the V band, has been retrieved from maps of Galactic FIR emission, dust temperature and extinction (Schlegel et al. 1998). Our results are similar to other measurements in the Galaxy but only marginally consistent with the widely quoted values of Hildebrand (1983) derived on one reflection nebula. The discrepancy with measurements on other reflection nebulae (Casey 1991) is higher and suggests a different grain composition in these environments with respect to the diffuse interstellar medium. We measure dust masses for a sample of six spiral galaxies with FIR observations and obtain gas-to-dust ratios close to the Galactic value.

Constraints on the nature of dust particles by infrared observations
The far-infrared (FIR) emissivity of dust is an important parameter characterizing the physical properties of the grains. With the availability of stellar databases and far-infrared data from Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) it is possible to compare the optical and infrared properties of dust, and derive the far-infrared emissivity with respect to the optical extinction. In this paper we prese...
متن کامل350 m OBSERVATIONS OF LOCAL LUMINOUS INFRARED GALAXIES AND THE TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE OF THE EMISSIVITY INDEX
We report 350 m observations of 18 nearby luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) using the Submillimeter High Angular Resolution Camera II (SHARC-II ) mounted on the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory (CSO) 10.4 m telescope. Combining our 350 mfluxmeasurements with the existing far-infrared (FIR) and submillimeter data, we fit a single-temperature model to the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) an...
متن کاملDust Emission from the Perseus Molecular Cloud
Using far-infrared emission maps taken by IRAS and Spitzer and a near-infrared extinction map derived from 2MASS data, we have made dust temperature and column density maps of the Perseus molecular cloud. We show that the emission from transiently heated very small grains (VSGs) and the big grain dust emissivity vary as a function of extinction and dust temperature, with higher dust emissivitie...
متن کاملCosmic Dust, Refraction and Emissivity
Cosmic dust is pervasive within our galaxy and it is reasonable to suspect it is dispersed in various ways throughout the universe. Cosmic dust has emissivity when exposed to electromagnetic energy sources. The emissivity of cosmic dust contributes to cosmic radio noise and concentrations of it alters electromagnetic waves by refraction. Cosmic dust is concentrated in our Sun’s heliosphere and ...

متن کاملFirst detection of the warm ionised medium dust emission Implication for the cosmic far-infrared background
We present a new analysis of the far-IR emission at high Galactic latitude based on COBE and HI data. A decomposition of the Far-IR emission over the HI, H+ and H2 Galactic gas components and the Cosmic Far InfraRed Background (CFIRB) is described. For the first time the far-IR emission of dust associated with the Warm Ionised Medium (WIM) is evidenced. This component determined on about 25% of...
